Black Bombaim

This work is less a document than a meditation: on musical creation and its dialogue with landscape as a space where mythologies are born and ghosts are embodied. Sound and image converge here in a gesture that seeks not to represent, but to inhabit. The project unfolds as a trilogy — an architecture both cinematic and musical — resonating with the compositions of Black Bombaim in their encounter with three distinct creative voices: Pedro Augusto, Luís Fernandes, and Jonathan Saldanha.

If, as Duchamp believed, art is a mirage, then art presupposes the desert — not the desert as a geographical category, but any deserted place, an expansive and potentially infinite landscape at the disposal of human imagination, where the possibility of inventing another world comes into view. Art, and by extension music, is the superimposition of mythology upon the real. An interior layered over an exterior — a fiction. Fiction, in producing signs and narratives, is essentially mythomaniac. Through fiction, a discourse is formed that seeks to intervene in the landscape — to capture it, expand it, fill it, fragment it, destroy it; in short, to somatize it. Fiction is a space without morphology or system, where space itself and its ghosts are somatized. The ghosts that music somatizes are the sounds of reality — for the origin of music lies in the imitation of the sounds of nature. From the opposition between interior/mythology and exterior/reality (that is, Black Bombaim and the composers versus their spaces, the interiors of the working room versus the exteriors), a filmic and sonic fiction takes shape.
